If you are a parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and would like to visit your child or grandchild in Canada, the Super Visa may be the right option for you. The Super Visa allows parents and grandparents to visit their family for up to 7 years without the need to leave and re-enter Canada every 6 months. The Super Visa has been a great benefit to Canadians who want to stay in touch with their loved ones. When IRCC announced in June 2022 (effective July 4, 2022) that the length of stay for Super Visa holders would be increased to five years per entry into Canada, we were thrilled. Now, they are also allowing current Super Visa holders who want to extend their stay by up to two years while in Canada. This means current Super Visa holders will now be able to stay in Canada for up to seven consecutive years. IRCC is also working on designating international medical insurance companies for Super Visa applicants in the future. This article will let you know if you are eligible for the Super Visa and how to apply for it. Eligibility Requirements Be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada. Have a signed letter from your child or grandchild who invites you to Canada. Provide proof of minimum income requirements (LICO) of your child or grandchild in Canada. Have medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company that is valid for at least 1 year from the date of entry, at least $100,000 emergency coverage. Have proof that the medical insurance has been paid in full (quotes aren’t accepted). Prove that you are a real visitor and are planning on leaving Canada at the end of your visit Go through a medical exam for immigration purposes. The application process is pretty similar to that of a Temporary Resident Visa for visitors. However, you will need to provide additional documents.
