Several important immigration changes are unfolding in Canada this month that could affect your plans for 2026–2027 and beyond. Here is a quick overview of what we are watching right now: Express Entry is expected to undergo a major overhaul in fall 2026, with plans to merge the Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trades programs into one stream and give more weight to job offers and higher-wage experience. For now, current Express Entry rules still apply, but it is a good moment to review your strategy, language scores, and job offer options. At the same time, the public consultation on the 2027–2029 Immigration Levels Plan has been extended to June 30, with the final targets to be tabled in Parliament in November 2026. There are also several time-sensitive updates for temporary residents and provincial programs. The temporary policy that lets certain work permit holders (issued on or before June 7, 2023) study without a study permit will end on June 27, 2026, so anyone planning to continue studying should look at a proper study permit. British Columbia has opened a new rural healthcare PNP stream from June 15 to August 31, 2026 (250 spots), while Alberta now allows candidates to edit their Worker Expression of Interest without paying the fee again. In Quebec, the family sponsorship window (spouses, partners, some adult children) is expected to reopen on June 25, and Ontario is in the middle of restructuring its PNP into a unified stream, with no new streams announced yet. With so many moving parts at the federal and provincial levels, planning ahead is essential.
