📌 PGP Intake Paused: What Canadian Families Need To Know

If you were hoping to sponsor your parents or grandparents to Canada, the latest change to the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) directly affects your plans.

If you were hoping to sponsor your parents or grandparents to Canada, the latest change to the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) directly affects your plans. On July 15, 2026, IRCC paused new intake under the Parents and Grandparents Program until further notice. This means IRCC is not accepting new Interest to Sponsor forms, is not issuing new invitations to apply, and you cannot start a new PGP sponsorship unless you were already invited. At the same time, IRCC has indicated it still plans to approve up to 15,000 people for permanent residence through existing PGP files in 2026. If your PGP application is already in process, your file should continue to move through the system. It is important to monitor your IRCC account and email, respond to any document or information requests by the stated deadlines, and report material changes such as income, family composition, or address. For families who have not received an invitation, the temporary alternative remains the Super Visa, which can allow parents and grandparents who qualify to visit Canada for up to 5 years at a time, with multiple entries over up to 10 years. This is a temporary resident option, not permanent residence, and it does not guarantee admission at the border. Every family’s situation is different. ATA Immigration can review your PGP file (if you already applied), help you understand whether a Super Visa could be an appropriate option, and discuss how these changes may affect your short- and longer-term plans to bring parents or grandparents to Canada. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Learn about family sponsorship pathways and current options: https://www.ataimmigration.com/immigration-canada 🛂 Explore Super Visa requirements and visitor options: https://www.ataimmigration.com/visitor-visas-canada 📅 Book a consultation to review your PGP or Super Visa strategy: https://www.ataimmigration.com/book-online
